Ceiling lights 101: A Complete Buying Guide
I am back with my obsession with improving my home. It has been almost a month since I bought something new for my home and now I was wondering what to do next. With an unfortunate series of events that turned out to be in my favor, I had do to a little bit of remodeling in my home. It was particularly the ceiling that needed a good repair. While continuing with repairs, I came up with a pretty decent idea, if I say so myself and I thought why not change things up. Cue me going back to my research of things to change, which will not cost a fortune but will show some serious change around my house. The remodeling business turned out to be a perfect way to do this. While searching, I came across the perfect solution: ceiling lights.
I don’t know why I didn’t think of this before but ceiling lights seem to be just the subtle yet noticeable change I need around the house. And I found out they are much better than the traditional, old-school lights that many of us have in our homes. Since lighting makes up a very important part of our homes, changing it brings up a new atmosphere. So, if anyone is looking for a nice and subtle change for their house, ceiling lights are the way to go and I will explain why:
As you can probably figure out from the name, ceiling lights are the lights attached to the ceilings instead of the walls. They may be hung from the ceiling, in a way that they come out of it, or could be installed within the ceiling, although the latter is also called recessed lights. Both of these are great for use for many reasons and are better than the wall-lights.
Why you need to get them:
- Coverage:
Ceiling lights are preferable for any area since they can offer coverage for both large and small areas. If you have a large area to cover, you can go for low-hanging ceiling lights. If you have a small area to cover, recessed lights are ideal for you. Either way, they can be used for whichever you need have.
- Intensity:
Ceiling lights offer all sorts of intensities. Some ceiling lights offer high intensities which mean, the light will be brighter. Some ceiling lights are much dimmer. You can choose whichever you like based on your needs. A couple of brighter ones can fully be lit in a wide room, while for dimmer lights, you might need a few more but the ambiance would be unmatched.
- The lighting:
Since the ceiling lights are on the ceiling (A surprising fact), the light is from the top instead of from the sides. This is actually ideal for many different reasons and is the preferred method of lighting by many specialists since it lowers the strain and provides better coverage.
- Space-saving:
For those with low ceilings or a generally small room, recessed lights help to save space giving you extra room to put things and decorate. You don’t waste space with extra bulb holders or low-lying lights.
- Water-intensive environment:
Normal lights or low-lying ceiling lights are not preferred in water-intensive environments as they can start acting up or might not even work in the first place. Recessed lights are the only lights ideal for any water-intensive environment.
- Variety:
One of the biggest advantages of ceiling lights is the variety that comes with them. Ceiling lights are in many different shapes and sizes, making them perfect for any place. They could be track-lighting, semi-flush mounts, chandeliers, pendant lighting, and even fans with lights. You can choose whichever works best for you.
Keep the following in mind
Choosing to invest in ceiling lights is definitely worth it but keep the following in mind to avoid any inconvenience:
- The lighting:
Before choosing to buy a certain type of ceiling light, make sure to check the intensity of lights so you know exactly what the end result would be. Many times more than one light is connected to the same switch and turning them on could result in more than needed light, which w=is not good for your eyes. Also, if the lights you bought are too dim, that will also put a strain on your eyes.
- The area:
Keep in mind the area you want to fit the light in. Whether it’s the kitchen, the hallway, the living room, or the bedroom actually makes more difference than you think. See which area you want to put the lighting in and then decide on the lights.
- The size:
Another important factor to keep in mind when buying ceiling lights is the size of the lights. If they are too big, they will end up taking up too much space in the room and if they are too small, that won’t be good either.
- Lifespan:
The lifespan is, hands-down, one of the most important factors you must keep in mind. There is no point in buying lights which will stop working after six months. That will be like throwing your money down the drain. Keep the lifespan of the ceiling lights in mind before buying.
