Holders of $ILV may elect to stake their shares prior to the game's release in order to gain access to the liquidity mining program (a form of "yield farming" that has gained popularity with DeFi protocols, where the founding teams want to decentralize the protocol's governance).

Governance

In order to achieve a distributed holding of $ILV tokens across more of the Illuvium community, encourage new members to join the Illuvium community and enable a more liquid and transparent market for the trading of $ILV, the liquidity mining program aims to distribute $ILV from the Illuvium Treasury to early Illuvium community members.

The possibility of decentralized governance and a self-policing community that deters dishonest people from manipulating the game and government increases with the size of the Illuvium community. Users who wish to participate in governance and receive in-game fee distributions can do so by staking $ILV, a token of their belief and support, after the game launches.

Game Overview: 

Playing as a transport vessel survivor in an interstellar fleet, you look into a confusing distress beacon. Upon arriving at the call's source, you find yourself on a destroyed planet that may be the fabled birthplace of the civilization of your kind. All except a small portion of the planet is submerged under a massive crystal ocean. Severe weather phenomena strike the earth, revealing remarkably diverse climates. The ship's engines are cut off by a radiation explosion, sending you crashing into the planet's surface. You find magnificent creatures, some with almost godlike strength, as you crawl free from the wreckage. Might this have been the reason for this planet's demise?
